15 Best Things to Do in Bled (Slovenia) – Crazy Tourist
- Eat Cake – The traditional local cake of choice is called kremšnita. It’s moist, creamy, and buttery
- Hire e-bike – can do guided tour or self guided
- Lake Bled & Postojna Cave Day Trip
- Church of the Assumption of Maria – Professionally guided and self-led tours of the church are available – I have not found any guided tours yet or how you get there yourself
Adrienne:
For more on things to do for our 2 full days in Bled…in no particular order
- Walk around the lake – about 6km on mostly level ground, great views.
- Visit the Church on the island in the middle of the lake. and ring the bell for good luck (tickets are 6 euro and closes at 4pm). Two options for getting there
- Hire row boats and get ourselves there. https://finestayslovenia.com/whattodo/rowing/ Cost is around 15.00 EUR/boat/hour. Each boat takes the rower and 2 passengers. It is not far – if we go from the closest point it is only about 300m. For reference the longest axis of the lake is about 2km (the length of the international rowing course). I am very happy to be one of the rowers.
- Go on a Plenta which takes between 20 people and would cost about 20.00 EUR for the return trip with up to an hour on the island.
- Visit Bled Castle https://www.blejski-grad.si/en/- entrance fee is 16.00 EUR pp (group discounts only apply for groups of 10 or more) and tickets are purchased online. The castle is open from 8am to 8pm each day and last entry is 1/2 hour before closing. The castle is about 1.5km/25mins walk around the lake and up the hill from where we are currently booked to stay. Could also get a taxi or uber for the drive of around 7 minutes.
- Spend time with ebikes exploring the lake and surrounding beauty spots. Whichever option we choose I recommend we book fairly soon. My experience of cycling in France in March is that bikes get booked out very quickly.
- Could do this by hiring bikes for the day. Cost of the rental at this site is AUD$59 for the day (maximum rental is from 9am to 7pm). This includes the helmet. We could then make our own adventure including riding to Vintgar Gorge. Comments on the bike rental site say they provide maps of the area. The beauty of this option is that it gives maximum flexibility. We would need to book this in advance and have to provide heights of all riders to make the booking.
- Correction – full day e-Bike rental is AUD$76.64 pp. Half day rental (four hours) is AUD$59.61 rental with start time of 9am or 3pm. The people in the office provide info on routes to local villages etc. There are other places that you can hire bikes from but the one at the link in my previous post has the best reviews. Pick up point is 600m from the suggested accommodation.
- Could also do a guided tour. Cost starts at AUD$151 per person for a 3 hour tour. This includes helmet and a bottle of water!!
- Swim in the lake.
- Have a picnic by the lake.
- Eat cream cake.
Details
Yes
- Bled Castle is the town’s most noted attraction, and during the peak tourist season, it can get downright crowded. need 1/2 day to really look at it
- Church of the Assumption of Maria Located in on an island in the middle of the Lake Bled
- Postojna Caves located just outside Bled spend a few hours at the caves before heading off to Predjama castle, which is only a few miles away.
- Hike to the Lake Bled Overlook. There’s another vista point a little farther up, but most hikers agree that the extra effort required to reach it isn’t necessarily worth it.
- Vintgar Gorge
- Pokljuka Plateau
- Bled Island Gallery. Most visitors spend about an hour checking out the gallery’s paintings and sculptures before heading off to explore the other treasures found there.
- The traditional local cake of choice is called kremšnita

Lake Bled, 4260 Bled, Slovenia
Howdy Adrienne and I have been looking at accommodation in Lake Bled for the 3 nights. Nick has advised to stay in the town are if we want to easily access eateries/pubs. The best we have found is the link below I have reserved 2 double interconnecting rooms which will do for the Hacketts/Warnocks, Leonie/Brights, Adrienne has book a room in another hotel next door. The total cost is $3172 for 3 nights, $151 PP per night. For 3 nights $453 Per single (Leonie), $906 Per couple.

I am happy if people can find something cheaper in that area to suggest to the group, I have not paid anything, payment is due on 15 May.
Cheers Tan
As Tania has said – I have reserved a room in accommodation just near the one she is suggesting (for 7peep) as that one didn’t have the right combination of rooms for a second ‘single’. We weren’t able to find other affordable options that would fit all 8 of us. So travel agent (aka Nick) found the last room in a nearby place and I have booked it.
Next up – more comments on things to do.
